Shelly Bay Housing

Shelly Bay is nestled within the rocky shoreline of Wellington. Surrounded by nature, the site is a picturesque spot for a residential community. Shelly Bay Housing is made for our most vulnerable people. A place those who are in need can call home. The space allows residents to take long walks along the coastline or potter in the community garden.

Mid-century design and interiors were heavy influences for the project. Creating a bright, groovy space that also feels warm and inviting. Dark warm woods with a mixture of light cream colours create a contrast of depths. Bright-coloured tiles and kitsch artwork brings a charming, eclectic feel. Inspiration was also taken from the Spilt House in Sandringham, Auckland.

The layout of the home is all one story with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The homes would be ideal for families as one of the rooms can be converted into a study space. There is also one shared bathroom and one ensuite in the main bedroom. The kitchen and living are open plan, looking out to the view of Shelly Bay and the courtyard. Attached to the home is a beautiful courtyard to be purely appreciated or lived amongst. Creating one with nature.

Shelly Bay Housing is a home for everyone.

Shelly Bay Housing was a project for a third year interior architecture paper.
